Distant yet so close (publication)

𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦, 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘪𝘯𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 (2025) features various artist contributions that explore the tension between distance and closeness in relation to climate change. Embodiment, solastalgia, and engaging with physical senses are taken as a bridge between the distanced, sometimes dry scientific facts and the relationality to climate change and non-human entities and materiality that is necessary to address the crisis.

This publication showcases the results of a months-long exchange between a group of scientists at International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and artists dedicated to applying their creativity to drive change. Sometimes bumpy, the dialogue between art and science requires time, understanding, openness, and trust.
